When you see someone who looks familiar in the check-out line at the grocery store and politely say…. “How are you?” and they say “Well, my mother died when I was eighteen and about to get my degree so I never did become a teacher like I had always wanted, and then last year my sister got breast cancer and my asshole boyfriend left me for another woman two days before my birthday last month, and now I can’t seem to find any mini marshmallows anywhere.” This conversation actually took place yesterday. Just say “Fine, thank you”. Fine is good.
